12 Players from the LGBT community from around the UK, coming together to showcase the importance of gender inclusive sport

What this event is about:

You are invited to support a WR5s 4 team tournament to celebrate one of the most gender inclusive team sports in the world.

From grass roots to elite and Paralympic discipline, wheelchair rugby is fully inclusive, welcoming players of all ages, backgrounds and genders to compete in mixed teams in national leagues and international competitions.

This tournament takes place during Pride Month on Saturday 7th of June, to celebrate players from the LGBT community and aims to promote an inclusive team sport that supports gender inclusion.

There has long been debate about gender inclusion in sport, particularly around transgender athletes and any perceived advantage they may have over other athletes. Adaptive sports are leading the way in breaking down these barriers.

Adaptive, or disability sports offer a unique opportunity to showcase gender inclusive sport, where it is not an individuals gender but their ability through impairment that provides any advantage or disadvantage, as such player classifications play a key roll in maintaining fair competition, not a persons age or gender.

As such, wheelchair rugby is a sport that is proving time and time again that these barriers can be overcome, through gender inclusive participation with mixed teams.
