Held at West Mercia Police Headquarters, Hindlip in Worcestershire, teams from PUKDS, Dragons, Burton and Northampton Saints took to the court in a tournament aimed at development.
It was a fantastic day of wheelchair rugby, with all players giving everything, to support their team mates and players from other teams in a round of group matches.
After some very competitive group matches, Northampton Saints topped the group with three wins from three and progressed to the final. With the remaining teams competing to meet them in the last match of the day, it was our very own police team that overcome very tough opposition, this difference coming down to some well timed game management towards the end of each match.
Burton and Dragons faced off first in the 3rd and 4th place play-off, where Dragons proved too much for Burton at the end of a long and tough day of wheelchair rugby. With Dragons taking the win with a similar score difference to their previous group match.
PUKDS and Saints circled up for the final and it was no surprise to see Saints take an early lead, which they held on to until the final buzzer. It was a fantastic final match, with both teams showing great sportsmanship and support.
We also launched the PUKDS Teddy Bear Raffle, which will feature at all tournaments this year. Our teddy bear, Ace, made by Keel Toys and featuring a PUKDS ribbon, is raffled to raise vital funds that help towards the costs of the tournament as we do not charge clubs to enter. The money raised helps to pay for coaches and officials who give up their free time to support the tournament.
